Summary - looking for alaska
The main characters of looking for alaska are Miles "Pudge" Halter, Alaska Young, Chip "The Colonel" Martin, Takumi Hikohito, and Lara Buterskaya. Some of the conflicts were when Alaska died, The Great Perhaps, and the war between The Colonel, and the Warriors. Throughout the story Miles "Pudge" is basically trying to discover his identity, and calls it "The Great Perhaps" which he believes will lead him to what life really means, and make him understand himself and the world. Pudge attends Culver Creek High School, started off very unhappy, and quiet until he meets The Colonel. They become very close, and when The Colonel introduces Pudge to Alaska, Pudge starts to develop feelings for her. Then Alaska promises to get Pudge a girlfriend and sets up a "triple-and-a-half-date with Pudge and Lara. As these friends go on adventures together, and try new things they become really close. Apart of the high school experience of course they start drinking alcohol and doing drugs, and even thinking about sex. Acedemically, Pudge finds Culver Creek to be really challenging, so he starts focusing on studying more and would take smoking breaks inbetween. Later in the story, Takumi is introduced. When winter break arrives The Colonel and Takumi return home for the holidays, and Alaska and Pudge are left but to yet become even better friends. When they all return, they all spent a night in a barn planning for an adventure. They would always mess with the principle, and have prank wars with their enemies, The Warriors. But one night, when Pudge, The Colonel, and Alaska are all drinking together, Alaska randomly leaves and comes back very upset and made the boys help her leave, so they have to distract the principle. Alaska finally got away, and left into the night leaving no explanation to Pudge or the Colonel. The next morning the principle "The Eagle" called everybody into the gym, notifying there has been a horrific accident. Pudge and Colonel find out that Alaska died in a horrible car crash. Due to emotional distress, and alcohol in her system while driving was the main cause of the accident. Colonel and Pudge are determined to find the reason of Alaska death. She ended up being on her way to see her mother on the anniversary of her death and Alaska didnt want to let her mother down like she did the day she died. As the pieces were put together all the friends put aside the grief of her death, and decided to carry on the prank Alaska had came up with for a school function. They did this in her honor, by hiring a male prositute to dance on the stage during a speaking. In the end, after all the traumatic events and experiences all the friends went through, Pudge finally discovered who he really was. Alaska will forever be in Tamuk, Lara, Pudge, and The Colonel's memory.
